Springtime in Kentucky brings forth an amazing display of wildflowers to the Kentucky River Palisades. Formed from the oldest exposed rock in Kentucky, the Palisades are carpeted with such early arrivals as the showy fire pink, dwarf larkspur and Jacob's Ladder.

Our staff naturalist and guides lead your exploration of our 3,000 acre site. You will study wildflower and woody plant identification and the geologic history of Central Kentucky. During your stay you will also learn about the Shakers, their connection to the land and explore historic Shaker Village.

Program involves walking approximately 1-3 miles, plus one hike of 5 miles. Trails are rated easy to moderate, ground may be uneven. Participants must be in good physical condition.

Extensive walking with stairs. Paths between buildings can be uneven. Program requires considerable walking and some strenuous physical activity.

Exploritas is the name for the programs developed and offered by Elderhostel, Inc., the not-for-profit world leader in lifelong learning and educational travel since 1975.  Our mission is to empower adults to explore the world's places,  peoples, cultures and ideas, and in so doing to discover more about themselves.  A fellowship of learning and the joy of discovery are the hallmarks of the Exploritas experience.
