Harrodsburg, KY (7 May 2008) – It’s a historic day at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. For the first time, the largest restored Shaker community in the country will begin selling alcoholic beverages by the drink at the Trustees’ Office Dining Room and at private group functions.
Beverage sales will officially start at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008. Dinner guests will have the option of ordering a drink with their meal. Thereafter, alcohol by the drink will be available at both lunch and dinner.
“We are starting with beer and wine by the glass,” said Madge Adams, Shaker Village President and CEO. “We will later phase in wine by the bottle and various distilled spirits. This gives us a chance to find out the preferences of our guests.”
Shaker Village officials hope beverage sales will boost business and revenue for the National Historic Landmark, especially through an increase in overnight visitors to the Inn at Shaker Village.
“We anticipate a very positive economic impact, one that will help Shaker Village continue its mission of preservation on the site where a remarkable society once flourished,” said Adams.
Shaker Village service staff have undergone extensive training from the state’s Office of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
“With the opportunity to sell alcoholic beverages comes a large responsibility, and this is something that we take very seriously,” Adams said. “We want to make sure we are as prepared as we can possibly be.”
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is owned and operated by Shakertown at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational corporation. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark from boundary to boundary by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
