Guided by the Millennial Laws, the Shakers have become famous for their emphasis on collective order and purity. At Pleasant Hill, hundreds of men and women joined a religious community and lived in peace and harmony—except when they didn’t! This summer, visit Shaker Village to uncover the disputes that sometimes erupted within the normally tranquil society.
