Listening to the Silence - The Art of Bill Berryman
Exhibition Opening: Saturday, May 11 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
For centuries, the simplicity of life at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill has inspired visitors. Although Shakers have not lived in this Village for nearly a century, their spirit remains, in large part, through the buildings and landscapes they created and shaped.
Bill Berryman is one of the few who are able to embody the serenity and spirituality of Pleasant Hill in his art.
Whether looking into the face of a young Shaker girl, or a lone coat hanging against a stark, aged wall, you may sense another presence in the room when viewing Bill Berryman’s creations. Berryman weaves stories throughout his work with detailed yet simplistic images.
He captures a moment in time, although we’re never quite sure when that moment has taken place. He creates a world that he knows and loves, and shares it with us behind glass.
You are invited to join us in the newly reopened Centre Family Dwelling as we formally open Mr. Berryman's art exhibit, Listening to the Silence.
Following a presentation by the artist, there will be a presentation of Shaker music given by Shaker Village staff.
