Behind the Scenes: Shaker Village’s Collection
Saturday, October 8, 2022 | 2- 3:30 p.m.
Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill preserves more than 5000 artifacts associated with the Pleasant Hill Shakers. Go behind the scenes with Shaker Village’s curator to explore highlights from the collection.
The Pleasant Hill Shakers were prodigious journalists, documenting many aspects of life in their community. Today, Shaker Village’s archival collection is used by visiting scholars and staff members to better inform our understanding of the Shakers, but the fragile documents and manuscripts are seldom exhibited to the public. View journals and personal diaries kept by the Shakers, reading firsthand accounts of key events in Kentucky history. Learn about the Shakers’ record-keeping process and hear stories about some of the community’s key diarists.
