Join us to learn the traditional art of candle making. During this workshop, we will make both dipped and scented candles using a blend of historic and modern methods.  

All necessary materials are provided. No experience necessary and all levels are encouraged.

Join Canoe Kentucky guides for an adventure along picturesque stretches of the Kentucky and Dix Rivers. Paddle beneath the imposing Palisades as the leaves begin their autumn change.

This 3-4-hour paddle includes a sack lunch along the banks of the river. This program is for guests ages 12 and up. Ages 12-17 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Pricing:
Canoe Rental: $60 per person
Kayak Rental: $70 per person
Bring Own Canoe: $55 per person
Bring Own Kayak: $55 per person

Each fall, hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies migrate from the United States to warmer regions in Mexico and California. The monarch migration is one of the world's greatest natural wonders, yet it is threatened by habitat loss.

Take an easy hike through The Preserve and learn how its wildflowers serve as an important habitat for butterflies and other essential pollinators, then help tag monarchs to track and monitor their annual migration. Along the way, discuss plants you can grow in your own yard to help save the monarchs.

Cost:

Discovery Trek availability is limited and advanced registration and non-refundable prepayment is required. For your comfort and safety, please consider the location, weather, temperature and activity when planning your attire. Dress for comfort and be ready for exploration. Discovery Trek tickets will not be mailed in advance. Please check in at the Welcome Center 15 minutes prior to the activities’ scheduled start time.

The Shakers grew, prepared and sold herbs for many purposes across the country. Learn about varieties of herbs and how they can be used to make all natural products for your home and body.

This workshop includes discussion and demonstration of the basic steps for making environmentally green cleaners, teas and more. Make several of your own products to take home or give as gifts.

Tracee Stainglass

Join Tracee Dorn Carmichael as she demonstrates stained glass making. This demonstration will take place outdoors, weather permitting, and guests will be able to interact with the artist and discuss her process. Her pieces will also be available to purchase.


* Demonstrations take place at the Welcome Center. Participation is included with free admission to Kentucky Heritage Jazz Festival.
