Centre Family Dwelling, Shaker Village Centre Family Dwelling

The Centre Family Dwelling is a masterpiece of Shaker architecture. Construction began on the massive dwelling house in 1824 and served as a home to the Shakers for almost 100 years before being transformed into two distinctive museums. Take an in-depth tour and explore this building like never before!

Join artist Lydia Allen as she demonstrates needlework and penny rug making. This demonstration will take place outdoors, weather permitting, and guests will be able to interact with the artist and discuss her process.

Artist's Bio
The inspiration for Lydia’s wool art has been her appreciation for the intricate handwork designs from 18^th-and 19^th-century textiles. Her wool creations incorporate themes and patterns that symbolize peace.

Lydia uses wool fabric, creating her own unique designs and patterns. All are hand cut and stitched. An idea comes to mind, sometimes there is a sketch, then the wool and thread come together to tell a story or share a memory.

Why is it called a Strawberry Moon? Traditionally, this month’s full moon signaled the time to harvest wild strawberries.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while discovering some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will observe constellations and learn fun facts about the moon and its importance in our lives!

Join us for the start of our 2021 Fresh Food Adventure Series, with a dinner of foods from our southern roots. Chef Amber Hokams will take you on a journey sampling foods from various areas of the southern United States. It’s sure to be a fun-filled evening dining al fresco in the Shaker Village Garden. This all inclusive communal dining experience includes all food courses, beverages and service charges.
