The Shakers used a distinctive material for crafting seats — colorful, woven strips known as “tape” or “listing.” In this workshop, you’ll get to learn the art of chair taping for yourself!

We’ll use a mix of traditional and modern materials, and you’ll walk away with a woven footstool in a color combination that’s uniquely yours. No experience necessary and all materials provided.

Do you love trees? Join us for this hands-on guided workshop and learn the basics of identifying some of Kentucky’s native trees.

Along the way, we will tour the grounds at Pleasant Hill while learning tips for identifying many different species of native trees. Participants will walk 1 to 1.5 miles in the Historic Centre of the Village on both gravel and grass surfaces, so wear your comfortable walking shoes!

Bring the kids to explore Shaker Village’s Shawnee Run Creek and identify the creatures that make their homes in this unique aquatic ecosystem. Learn how to safely study and handle these living creatures and how we can work together to make our waterways healthy habitats.
