Join us for this springtime walk under a beautiful Kentucky sunset. Along the way, explore how social, cultural and political forces contributed to the decline of the once thriving village of Pleasant Hill, and discover the unique personalities of the few Shakers that remained until the end.

Walk through millions of years of geologic time as you descend along the river road into the Kentucky River Palisades. Our guides will show how the geology of the region has shaped what we see above ground today.

This program is for guests ages 10 and up. If ages 10-17, guests must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Mills were essential for the early success and growth of the Shaker community at Pleasant Hill. On this easy guided hike in the Preserve, discover the ruins of several of these important building sites and learn how the physical landscape at Pleasant Hill provided the Shakers with perfect opportunities to develop these crucial pieces of infrastructure.

Participants should check-in with tour leader at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the program at the Welcome Center. All guests will then drive their personal vehicles to the Center Trailhead to begin the program.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while learning about some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will identify and observe constellations that are visible in our hemisphere during the winter months.

Let Shaker Village help you learn everything needed to get started with beekeeping!

This course will teach participants about the honeybee life-cycle, choosing hive equipment and assembly, hive site selection, basic pest management, the costs of beekeeping, how to establish your first hives and what to expect in your first year as a beekeeper. Practical instruction and a variety of guides and resources will be shared. Participants will also take home a beginner beekeeping book.
