Rug Hooking & Spinning Demonstration

Saturday, April 30 | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Rug Hooking, Sheep rug hooking, Shaker Village rug hooking

Learn about traditional rug hooking and spinning with fiber artist Fran Decker. Join in on the fun and learn how these beautiful pieces are made. Fran’s work will be available for purchase at the Welcome Center.

Fran is a local fiber artist who was an artist in residence at Shaker Village for several years. Her concentration has been on the traditional art of rug hooking, where she combines her love of wool with the history of Shaker rug makers.

Currently, her series "From Sheep to Sheep" uses raw wool sheared at the Village from Rambouillet and Shetland sheep. She processes their fleece into yarn and then "hooks" the wool into images of the sheep that the fleece came from.

* Demonstrations take place at the Welcome Center. Participation is included with Admission to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
