Flowering Dogwood
The Flowering Dogwood is a small-sized, deciduous, eastern tree with a short trunk and low branches. Found frequently as an understory tree in woodlands and in hedgerows throughout the state, it has showy white bracts surround the flower.
Its fleshy, red fruits are valuable autumn and winter food the wood duck, wild turkey, pigeon, cardinal, evening grosbeak, cedar waxwing, rabbit, fox, chipmunk and many other birds and mammals.
