2025 Spirit Strolls: Death and Tragedy at Pleasant Hill

While the Shakers strove to create an earthly paradise, they could not escape the realities of human life—disease, violence, and death were present at every stage of Pleasant Hill’s history. We'll explore the darker side of the Village with a lantern-lit walk to the cemetery, stopping along the way for surprising tales of everything from headless corpses to violent feuds.

This program deals with mature themes including illness, injury, murder, and grief. Spirit Strolls is intended for ages 16+. All minors must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. Tickets required for guests aged 5+.
This program will take place outdoors throughout the Historic Centre. Participants will traverse crushed stone, gravel, and grass on a one mile round-trip. The program will proceed rain or shine, although the route may be modified in case of inclement weather. Participants should be comfortable walking in low light/semi-dark conditions.
