Bats

We'll meet some of our little nocturnal neighbors on this gentle nighttime hike (approximately 1 mile). With special acoustic "bat boxes" we can listen in on the local bat population as we learn about these misunderstood mammals.

Creek Critters

It feels good to splash around in a creek on a hot summer day, but did you know that you might be stomping through someone's home? Lots of macroinvertebrates - from snails to crayfish - live in Shawnee Run Creek. We'll meet some of these small creatures and learn about their habitat while also having some watery creekside fun.

Fireflies

Join us on an easy twilight hike (approximately 1 mile) as we search for fireflies. We'll learn about the spectacular light show that the "lightning bugs" put on each evening and the different types of fireflies that
call Kentucky home.

nature journaling

Shaker Village's Preserve is a wonderful place to observe and record the natural world. We'll start by making our own journals and then set off on an easy hike (approximately 1 mile) to see what we can find to document in words and drawings.

eco ornaments

Taking our inspiration from nature, we'll use easily-sourced natural and recycled items to create beautiful, handmade holiday decorations. We'll explore some of the Shakers' Christmas traditions - and their frugal use of their natural resources - as we make two different ornaments to take home.

Family Adventures are for guests with children aged 12 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult family member. Tickets required for all attendees. Dogs are not permitted.
