2026 Pleasant Hill & the Battle of Perryville
Thursday, October 8, 2026 | 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
On October 8, 1862, the Pleasant Hill Shakers listened fearfully to the booming of cannons and other sounds of battle. Seventeen miles away, near the small community of Perryville, more than 20,000 Union and Confederate forces were locked in a pivotal battle. For the pacifist Shakers, the fall of 1862 was a particularly troubling time - soldiers marched through the community both before and after the battle, begged for food from the kitchens, camped in the surrounding fields, and stole the Shakers' horses.
Join us for an evening stroll on the 164rd anniversary of the Battle of Perryville as we explore the many ways that this battle impacted the Pleasant Hill Shakers.
