2026 Elements of Photography: Architecture & Interiors

Lexington photographer Carol Peachee has photographed Pleasant Hill for more than four decades, capturing unique and intimate views of this iconic Shaker community. In 2024, her work was published by The University Press of Kentucky as Shaker Made: Inside Pleasant Hill's Shaker Village. Join Carol at Shaker Village for a special series of hands-on photography workshops in 2026.
The Shakers of Pleasant Hill were known for their impressive buildings and iconic architecture. From the spiral staircase of the 1839 Trustees' Office to the textured limestone blocks of the 1809 Farm Deacon's Shop, there are a wealth of architectural details waiting to be captured in the perfect photograph. Carol will introduce participants to some of the key elements that go into capturing a strong image, including light, texture, patterns, and contrast. Then, the workshop will move out into Shaker Village's buildings, exploring these concepts through photography of architectural elements and building interiors.

Participants must bring their own camera. Cameras may range from phones to 35mm, but participants must have a basic working knowledge of their own device.
This workshop is intended for participants aged 18+. Tickets required for all attendees.
Program fee includes a boxed lunch, one complimentary admission to Shaker Village and one voucher for 20% off dining at The Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservation recommended: call 859.734.5411.
