2026 Going Batty!
Saturday, October 31, 2026 | 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Bats are fascinating creatures and an essential part of our ecosystem, and yet they remain one of our most misunderstood mammals. Join us for a nighttime stroll through the fields and forests of Pleasant Hill as we dispel myths and learn about their habitat and food needs.
Our October hike coincides with the end of International Bat Week. Unfortunately, the change of the seasons in Kentucky means that bats may be less active, conserving energy during periods of cool weather and when less food sources will be present by entering torpor (a less extreme form of hibernation.) We'll do our best to locate bats during our evening together, using special acoustic "bat boxes" to listen in, but the cool weather of late October may result in less-than-active bat populations.
