Shaker Broom Making
Label in New Exhibit

You're invited to join us for the opening of our latest exhibit, Local Economies, Global Impacts.

The Shakers were renowned throughout nineteenth-century America for their dynamic and diverse economic production. Visit Local Economies, Global Impacts to discover how the Pleasant Hill Shakers' communal structure supported the local production of brooms, textiles, seeds and more - and how these products connected this small community to a much larger world.

This groundbreaking exhibition represents a bold step in Shaker Village’s sitewide interpretive plan. Spanning three rooms in two historic buildings, visitors to this new, permanent installation will discover the fascinating story of Shaker ingenuity, manufacturing and marketing through personal stories, interactives and rarely seen artifacts.

  • Attendance is included with paid admission to Shaker Village.
  • "Local Economies, Global Impacts" is located in two buildings: the 1845 East Family Brethren's Shop and the 1855 East Family Sisters' Shop.
  • While the exhibit will be open from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily, attendance to special tours on March 26 requires registration at the link above.
  • Annual Passholders receive free admission to this, and many other Shaker Village special events.
  • Call 859.734.5411 or email [email protected] for more information.

Funding for Local Economies, Global Impacts was made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, along with the generous contributions of private donors.
