Learn about traditional rug hooking and spinning with fiber artist Fran Decker. Join in on the fun and learn how these beautiful pieces are made. Fran’s work will be available for purchase at the Welcome Center.

Fran is a local fiber artist who has been the Shaker Village resident artist for the past six years. Her concentration has been on the traditional art of rug hooking, where she combines her love of wool with the history of the Shaker rug makers.

Currently, her series "From Sheep to Sheep" uses the raw wool sheared at the Village from the Rambouillet and Shetland sheep. She processes their fleece into yarn and then "hooks" the wool into the images of the sheep the fleece came from.
