Volunteerism at Shaker Village

Roll up your sleeves and lend a hand to help maintain the beauty of Shaker Village! Shaker Village staff will lead small teams of volunteers on a variety of outdoor beautification projects, including painting, staining and cleaning.

To keep our volunteers and staff safe we will be working in small groups, following all COVID-19 safety standards, and providing tools for individual use only, where needed.

Work projects will total approximately 4 hours for the day, for guests ages 18 and up, and space is limited!

Archaeological excavations at Pleasant Hill have uncovered fascinating artifacts over the years! On this easy guided hike through the center of the Village, learn about some of these discoveries and explore how archaeology helps us understand more about the over 200 structures that no longer remain at Pleasant Hill!

Mills were essential for the early success and growth of the Shaker community at Pleasant Hill. On this easy guided hike in The Preserve, discover the ruins of several of these important building sites and learn how the physical landscape at Pleasant Hill provided the Shakers with perfect opportunities to develop these crucial pieces of infrastructure.

Participants should check-in with tour leader at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the program at the Welcome Center. All guests will then drive their personal vehicles to the Center Trailhead to begin the program.

What is the significance of the spring equinox?

During the equinox, both halves of the Earth are receiving the sun's rays equally. In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox officially brings winter to an end and kicks off spring!

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while learning about some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will identify and observe constellations while exploring the cultural and scientific importance of the spring equinox.

Participants should meet at the Welcome Center by 7:15 pm. All participants should bring flashlights to assist in returning to vehicles or rooms at the conclusion of the evening.
