The Shakers grew, prepared and sold herbs for many purposes across the country. Learn about varieties of herbs and how they can be used to make all natural products for your home and body.

This workshop includes discussion and demonstration of the basic steps for making carpet cleaners, hand sanitizers, green cleaners, teas, sugar scrubs, and more. Make several of your own products to take home or give as gifts. Find out just how easy it is to make big batches all at once!


Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village and one voucher redeemable for 20% off dining at the Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservation recommended to assure availability - 859.734.5411.

This event is for guests ages 14 and up. If ages 14-17, they must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Hand-tied brooms workshop

Join us to learn a heritage craft that links us to over 200 years of tradition making brooms at Pleasant Hill.  We begin with small brushes, learning our craft and moving up to Cobwebbers—a hand-tied broom built on a handle. All necessary materials are provided.

No experience necessary and all levels are encouraged to join.

Join Canoe Kentucky guides for an adventure along picturesque stretches of the Kentucky and Dix rivers. Paddle beneath the imposing Palisades as the leaves begin their autumn change.

This 3-4-hour paddle includes a sack lunch along the banks of the river. This program is for guests ages 12 and up. If ages 12-17, they must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village and one voucher redeemable for 20% off dining at the Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservation recommended to assure availability - 800.734.5611 x 360.

Join the Bluegrass Amateur Astronomy Club to view the wonders of the night sky. Using a variety of telescopes, on clear nights you will be able to observe objects within our solar system, as well as a wide variety of deep space objects. Knowledgeable club members will ensure you are not only inspired, but informed!

Each viewing is free to the public, and weather dependent. If there is a chance of cloud cover, please call to confirm viewing that day.

Minors should have adult supervision.

Celebrate all things fall and kick off the harvest season with a down-home celebration for the entire family!

Take a hayride, paint a pumpkin, climb haystacks, ride a pony and play in the bouncy house.  Shop for honey, breads and jams at the Harvest Market, then meet the Farm animals and try Farm-made concoctions.

Heritage demonstrations this year will include:

  • Apple cider pressing
  • Milling sorghum
  • Working with hemp
  • Scything grass
  • Using a portable forge
  • And more!

Live music, an outdoor bar and a variety of food trucks help complete your perfect September weekend!

Entrance to HarvestFest is included in your general admission to Shaker Village, granting you access to this event, as well as historic tours, exhibits and more!
