Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by joining in on one Big Day of birding! Join us for an easy hike on the Preserve and learn birding basics while participating in this massive, global birding event.

Do you love the fall colors? Come join us on an autumnal hike through Shaker Village as we learn about native trees, enjoy the fall foliage and find out why nature puts on this spectacular display.

This program is designed for guests ages 12 and up. All minors must be accompanied by a paid adult.

This program will traverse approximately 3 miles of uneven terrain. Surfaces may include gravel, wet grass, and leaf litter. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and are encouraged to bring water, sunscreen and snacks.

Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and one voucher redeemable for 20% off dining at The Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservations recommended. To assure availability, call 859.734.5411.

Have you ever wondered why some scents go together better than others do? Join us as we explore the fundamentals of essential oil perfumery. Along the way, we’ll learn about the different types of candle waxes, what to look for when you’re purchasing a candle, proper “care and feeding” of your candles, and more. You’ll walk away with a custom-scented soy wax candle in a glass apothecary jar – perfect to gift, or to keep!    

All necessary materials are provided. No experience necessary and all levels are encouraged.

Each Fresh Food Adventure has an all-inclusive fixed dinner and spirits menu. Special dietary accommodations must be communicated in advance. Availability is limited, advanced registration and non-refundable pre-payment is required.

Fresh Food Adventures are communal dining experiences, and guests should expect to share their table with other dining enthusiasts.

To celebrate Pollinator Week, we are highlighting central Kentucky’s butterflies.  Nearly 150 butterflies have been documented throughout the state. This indoor presentation will feature some of the most common summer butterflies in the Inner and Outer Bluegrass regions. Participants will learn tricks for identification, basic biology of butterflies, and their relationships with native plants. We will also cover community science projects and resources for documenting and sharing butterfly observations. After the presentation, there will be an opportunity to observe butterflies in the grasslands of Shaker Village.
