Fireflies are an iconic part of warm summer nights at Pleasant Hill. Join us for a delightful hike and discover both fact and fiction about these beautiful creatures that light up the evening. Along the way, we will take in the natural beauty of the Preserve while learning about the “lightning” bugs that are nature’s fireworks.

On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while discovering some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will observe constellations and learn fun facts about the moon and its importance in our lives.

What is the significance of the spring equinox?

During the equinox, both halves of the Earth are receiving the sun's rays equally. In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox officially brings winter to an end and kicks off spring!

Why is it called a “Snow Moon?”

The explanation behind February’s full moon name is a fairly straightforward one: it’s known as the Snow Moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February. On average, February is the United States’ snowiest month, according to data from the National Weather Service.
