2024 Night Hike: Spring Equinox

Saturday, March 23, 2024 | 8-9:30 p.m.
Moon, night sky, harvest moon, full moon

What is the significance of the spring equinox?

During the equinox, both halves of the Earth are receiving the sun's rays equally. In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox officially brings winter to an end and kicks off spring!

Celebrate spring by enjoying the night sky and the cosmos. Join us on this gentle hike through the Preserve and take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while discovering some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Learn about the significance of the land and how it served as a source of inspiration to the Shakers and humans throughout history. We'll end the evening with a warming cup of hot chocolate around a cheerful bonfire at our amphitheater.

Night Hike: Snow Moon

Date: February 24, 2024
Time: 6:00 pm  to  7:30 pm

2024 Night Hike: Snow Moon

Saturday, February 24, 2024 | 6-7:30 p.m.
Moon, night sky, harvest moon, full moon

Why is it called a “Snow Moon?”

The explanation behind February’s full moon name is a fairly straightforward one: it’s known as the Snow Moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February. On average, February is the United States’ snowiest month, according to data from the National Weather Service.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the winter prairie and forest at night while discovering some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Learn about the Shakers' relationship to this special place. Along the way we will observe the marvelous night sky and explore its importance in both past and present! We'll end the evening with a warming cup of hot chocolate around a cheerful bonfire at our amphitheater.
