Wood Carving Demonstration
Saturday, October 29 | 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Wood artisan Joe Baron crafts unique items from fashioned organic and repurposed materials. Joe will be demonstrating his craft and giving guests an opportunity to purchase his creations, ranging from birdhouse ornaments to hand-carved, miniature woodland scenes.
About the Artisan
Joe Baron’s love of wood carving and exploring Nature began in Cub Scouts at the age of twelve. It followed him into the jungles of Vietnam where he began carving intricate jewelry boxes from exotic wood, and returned home with him to Pennsylvania, where he became involved in historic restoration, plaques and signage.
Joe then moved to New Jersey, where he married and began making furniture, exploring Shaker design, deco restoration and framing. He was multi-galleried, specializing in custom framing and offering folk art. Joe's love of his craft turned into a lifelong hobby, alongside a successful career, and continues to infuse wonderment for those who purchase his modestly priced sculptures and the children who receive his spontaneous gifts of birdhouse ornaments at Christmas.
Demonstrations take place at the Welcome Center, and participation is included with Admission to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill
