2026 Celestial Company: Spirits & Signs from the Era of Manifestations
Saturdays, September 5, 12 & 19, 2026 | 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
During the “Era of Manifestations” in the 1830s and 1840s, the Shakers rediscovered the religious fervor that had characterized their earliest years in America. This outpouring of spiritual gifts included hundreds of divinely inspired hymns, messages from deceased Shakers, and heavenly spirit visitors. Religious services expanded beyond the physical walls of the Meeting House to include new sacred spaces throughout the community, as well as new forms of worship. In September of 1844, the Shakers held their first religious service at “Holy Sinai’s Plain,” an outdoor worship space located south of the village.
Join us for a special, lantern-lit walk as we follow in the Shakers’ footsteps and journey to Holy Sinai’s Plain, accompanied by theatrical readings from Shaker journals. Upon our return to the Historic Centre, we'll gather for Q&A while enjoying our own "spirits." Program fee includes one alcoholic beverage (up to $15 value) at Music on the Lawn.
