2024 Knitted Shaker Wristlets
Saturday, October 26, 2024 | 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Shaker sisters kept busy with a multitude of handiwork projects, including knitted "wristlets" or fingerless mitts. Perfect for wearing on a chilly fall morning, these alternatives to bulky gloves are just as popular and useful in the 21st century as they were in the 19th century.
Explore the Shakers' knitting traditions and view original textile items from Shaker Village's collection during a session with our curator. Then, participants will begin on their own wristlets, working from a pattern inspired by a set in the collection.
Price:
Annual Passholder: $30
General Admission: $40
Beginning knitters are welcome, but participants should be able to do basic knitting stitches, and follow a pattern. To accommodate individual preferences, participants will be asked to bring knitting needles and yarn (sock or fingering weight yarn; 50-100g) of their choice. Gauge information and a complete list of supplies will be shared with participants in early October.
This workshop is for ages 16 and up. Minors must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village and one voucher redeemable for 20% off dining at The Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservations recommended to assure availability: call 859.734.5411.
