This week we’re extending an invitation for our Mercer County neighbors to enjoy Shaker Village, free of charge! Whether it has been 10 days or 10 years since your last visit, we’re excited to show you what’s happening just around the corner.

Mercer County residents with a valid ID may attend daily programs and exhibits at no cost. Admission to some attractions will be limited, and all guests must receive their complimentary passes at the Shaker Village Welcome Center upon arrival.

All adults must have valid ID demonstrating Mercer County residence to receive free admission. Children under age 18, accompanied by a qualifying adult, will also be extended free admission. Does not apply to group rates.

Join Shaker Village and the Long Run Woodford Hounds fox hunters for this grand, traditional event featuring a blessing of the hounds, riders, and horses, followed by the first meet of the formal hunting season.

Warm up with wonderful winter breakfast foods alongside roaring outdoor fire pits.

This event is included with your general admission to Shaker Village, granting you access to historic tours, exhibits and other experiences across the property.

Drop in and help Shaker Village get ready for the holidays. Assemble fresh-cut greenery to make festive swags to decorate The Historic Centre. Make one, then take one!

Learn about traditional rug hooking and spinning with fiber artist Fran Decker. Join in on the fun and learn how these beautiful pieces are made. Fran’s work will be available for purchase at the Welcome Center.

Fran is a local fiber artist who concentrates on the traditional art of rug hooking, where she combines her love of wool with the history of the Shaker rug makers.

Currently, her series "From Sheep to Sheep" uses the raw wool sheared at the Village from the Rambouillet and Shetland sheep. She processes their fleece into yarn and then "hooks" the wool into the images of the sheep the fleece came from.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while learning about some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will identify and observe constellations that are visible in our hemisphere during the winter months.

All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Guests should meet at the Welcome Center at 5:00 p.m. All guests should bring flashlights that they can use to assist them return to their vehicles at the conclusion of the evening.

Take on the challenging project of making a market basket in a day! Learn the art of weaving using natural reed to make a basket that is perfect for shopping trips into town or to the local farmer’s market.

All necessary materials are provided. No experience necessary.
