Delve into needlework with a Shaker cross stitch sampler! Young women in the 19th century often stitched samplers as one of their first needlework projects, learning key sewing skills. We’ll take a close look at some original Shaker samplers in the Shaker Village Collection and learn about the sisters who worked them before beginning our own cross stitch projects.
All necessary materials are provided, including a kit to create a reproduction sampler. No experience necessary and all levels encouraged.

On this easy guided hike in the Preserve, discover the ruins of several of these important building sites and learn how the physical landscape at Pleasant Hill provided the Shakers with perfect opportunities to develop these crucial pieces of infrastructure.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while learning about some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will identify and observe constellations that are visible in our hemisphere during the winter months.
