Share an evening treat and a stroll through the spring garden to the historic barn. Meet the newest farm arrivals and learn about the bedtime rituals of our barnyard babies. Enjoy a warm drink and a quiet story alongside our baby animals inside the barn as they get ready for bed!

Celebrate Mother's Day by joining us for a special lunch or dinner at The Trustees' Table.

Choose from entrées of Chicken Piccata, Roasted Beef Tenderloin & Horseradish Cream, Maryland Style Crab Cake & Red Pepper Remoulade, or Roasted Pork Rack Chop & Apple Brandy Demi-Glace. Every entrée includes Ambrosia salad, Shaker Village yeast rolls, corn pudding and sautéed broccolini. Finish off the meal with a selection of homemade desserts. Non-alcoholic beverages are included.

Children five and under will have a choice of grilled cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fruit, ice cream and a drink.

Enjoy a guided walk along the Kentucky River Palisades to view spring ephemeral wildflowers in bloom. While the timing of specific blooms is hard to predict, be assured you will see signs of warmer weather around the corner.

Discovery Treks will be held in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations throughout the year. Every effort will be made to hold the event in its planned location, weather permitting. For your comfort and safety, please consider the location, weather, temperature and activity when planning your attire. Dress for comfort and be ready for exploration. Please check in at the Welcome Center 15 minutes prior to the activities’ scheduled start time.

Adult supervision required for participants under the age of 16. All minors must be accompanied by a paying adult.

The scythe is an incredibly versatile tool that has been used for centuries. Join us to explore the history and usefulness of the scythe and other Shaker mowing tools. Then, pick up a scythe yourself and discover how easy, graceful and rewarding traditional mowing practice can be.

All participants must be at least 18. No experience necessary. All tools will be provided. New Austrian scything kits will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the workshop for $250.

Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village, a boxed lunch and one voucher redeemable day-of for 20% off dining at the Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservation recommended, call 859.734.5411.

Why is it called a “Pink Moon?”

April’s full moon often coincides with the blooming ground phlox, a pink flower that is common throughout North America.

The night sky and the cosmos have been a source of inspiration and amazement throughout human history. Join us for an evening at Pleasant Hill and explore the starry sky! On this gentle hike through the Preserve, take in the wonders of the prairie and forest at night while discovering some of the mysteries and curiosities of the universe. Along the way, we will observe constellations and learn fun facts about the moon and its importance in our lives.

Participants should meet at the Welcome Center by 8:00 pm. All participants should bring flashlights to assist in returning to vehicles or rooms at the conclusion of the evening.

Shaker Village manages over 1,000 acres of restored native prairie. By establishing and caring for this important habitat, native wildlife, like Bobwhite Quail, have flourished.

Once a year, Shaker Village offers the public the opportunity to hunt wild quail in this native habitat through a hunt lottery.

Habitat management requires significant funding to conduct regular controlled burns, herbicide treatments, plantings and monitoring. Proceeds from The Heritage Hunt for Bobwhite Quail help Shaker Village provide this maintenance, and create a sustainable system so future generations may enjoy Kentucky's native flora and fauna. In addition, wildlife management through controlled hunts helps to sustain a healthier quail population.
