Hayrides

Starts September 6, 2019 then every Friday until October 25, 2019
Time: 6:30 pm  to  7:00 pm

Hayrides

Fridays + Saturdays, September-October @ 6:30 pm
Hay Rides, Hay Wagon

Tour: Last Rides: Shaker Funeral Practices

Explore the death rites and rituals of the Shakers on this wagon tour that will take you to the 1811 Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

In a religion where spiritual symbolism was based in simplicity, practicality, and the shunning of waste and excess, funerary practices could be hotly debated. These and other factors combined to create burial practices that differ in many ways from those we may be familiar with today.

This hay wagon ride will last approximately 30 minutes, circling Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill on the way to the 1811 Cemetery just to the east of the Village.

Price:
$5 for ages 6+
Free up to age 5

Adult supervision required for all children under the age of 16.

* On October 25 + 26, during Trick or Treat at Shaker Village, the hay wagon ride will be offered free of charge, and will run continuously through the event. The program will focus on a "general" tour rather than "Last Rides" due to time constraints.

Tickets are available for purchase the day of your visit at the Welcome Center. Please call 859-734-5411 or email [email protected] for more details.

Ticket Sales have closed for 2019!

Shaker Village manages over 1,000 acres of restored, native prairie. By establishing and caring for this important habitat native wildlife, like Bobwhite Quail, have flourished.

Once per year, Shaker Village offers the public the opportunity to hunt wild quail in this native habitat through a hunt lottery.

Habitat management requires significant funding to conduct regular controlled burns, herbicide treatments, plantings and monitoring. Proceeds from The Heritage Hunt for Bobwhite Quail help Shaker Village provide this maintenance, and create a sustainable system so future generations may enjoy Kentucky's native flora and fauna. In addition, wildlife management through controlled hunts helps to sustain a healthier quail population.
