What better time to enjoy a nighttime hike than in the light of the full moon? Traditionally, the full moon that falls closest to the autumnal equinox has always been known as the "Harvest Moon" - a time for farmers to finish gathering their summer crops and begin preparing for winter. Rising just before sunset, this year's Harvest Moon will be the perfect illumination for an evening stroll on the Preserve.

This hike will take place outdoors, rain or shine. Participants will traverse gravel, grass, and dirt pathways on a 1.5-3.0 mile loop along Shaker Village's trails. Participants should be comfortable walking in low light/semi-dark conditions. Participants may wish to bring a flashlight/headlamp, insect repellant and water.

The Harvest Moon Hike is intended for ages 12+. Tickets required for all attendees. Dogs are not permitted.

The annual Perseids meteor shower is a wonderful time to enjoy a relaxing evening of stargazing at Shaker Village! After a brisk 1.0-1.5 mile-hike to the best stargazing location at Shaker Village we’ll have blankets for you to spread out on the grass as we discuss summer constellations and the phenomenon of meteor showers. Don’t forget to make a wish on your first “shooting star.”

Join us for a special weekend of holiday workshops as Shaker Village celebrates Christmas in July! It's never too early to get started on your Christmas gift list. Inspired by the German tradition of using beeswax to create beautiful ornaments, we'll walk through the process of using ceramic molds to make decorations of pure beeswax. Participants will then get to choose from an assortment of provided mold options, making 3-4 ornaments to take home.

Join us for a special weekend of holiday workshops as Shaker Village celebrates Christmas in July! It's never too early to get started on festive, handmade decorations. Using the simplest of mediums - paper - we'll create beautiful handmade ornaments and decorations perfect for the holiday season. You'll learn how to take sheet music, or other types of paper, and transform it into an elaborate rosette.

During this workshop, each participant will make a large rosette or wreath, along with a small "flower" ornament to use in the center.

These elaborate stars, woven out of reed dyed in an assortment of colors, look beautiful on a Christmas tree or adorning a wreath, and they also make the perfect holiday gift.

During this workshop, each participant will make two reed stars (one large and one small) in contrasting colors.

Join us for a special weekend of holiday workshops as Shaker Village celebrates Christmas in July! It's never too early to get started on festive, handmade decorations. German stars, or Froebel stars, are classic 16-pointed stars made from folded paper. Traditionally dipped in wax and finished with a dusting of glitter, these stars can be personalized with colored paper or special patterns.

During this workshop, participants will learn to fold German stars and then be provided with a variety of different paper options to make 5-10 stars in various sizes.
