Winter Hour Closures at Shaker Village will be in effect beginning on January 8 through March 19, 2024 on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Trustees’ Table, The Inn, the Trustees Shop, the Post Office Shop and Daily Adventure Tours will all be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

During this time the Village will remain open to hikers, equestrians, walkers and photographers on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Welcome Center will remain opened and staffed around the clock.

The Inn:

  • Overnight rooms are not bookable on Monday and Tuesday nights.
  • Rooms are available to be booked on Sunday nights.
  • Sunday evening overnight guests will receive a complimentary to-go breakfast that can be picked up at the Welcome Center.

The Trustees’ Table:

  • The dining room will be closed for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays.
  • Breakfast will not be served on Wednesdays; the dining room will reopen for lunch on Wednesdays beginning at 11:30 a.m. and serve meals regularly through dinner on Sunday.
  • Sunday evening overnight guests will receive a complimentary to-go breakfast that can be picked up at the Welcome Center.

Programming:

  • Daily Adventure Tours are paused on Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as access to historic buildings and museum spaces.

Join us at The Trustees' Table for a traditional holiday lunch. The menu will feature a three-course meal of soup or salad, a choice of five different entrées, homemade desserts and non-alcoholic beverages. Bakery breads and coleslaw will also be served. Scroll down the page to view the full menu.

Join craftsman Derek Downing of Designer Baskets by Derek as he demonstrates the art of basket making. His baskets will be available to purchase at the Welcome Center and would make the perfect holiday gift.

Each of Derek’s creations represents a distinctive flair for style and concern for detail. His designs are based on the traditional egg-basket form; however each has about it a contemporary quality. Most are crafted of grapevine, hand-dyed rattan and sea grass, an unusual material for woven baskets, and an aromatic one. The basket handles forged from grapevine allow the tendrils to dictate the basket’s overall shape. The vibrant colors of his baskets are frequently inspired by trends in fashion and home furnishings. Most colors are produced from commercial textile dyes, many of which Derek creates himself. Once completed, each basket is signed and dated by the artist.

Demonstrations take place at the Welcome Center, and participation is included with Admission to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.

During the holiday season, Shaker Village will bustle with light-hearted moments that remind us of long-ago winter days filled with wonder and laughter. Make time to delight in life’s simple gifts with family and friends, as lively music, merriment and candlelight illuminate the Village.

Illuminated Evenings will feature holiday music, roaring fires and twinkling lights! Each Saturday evening will feature different performers, as well as programs and tours.

A portion of your admission will be donated to local charity:

Annual Passholders & Ages Under 2: Free

Meet Santa & Mrs. Claus - Take a picture with Santa in the cozy Farm Deacon's building. He'll be available and ready to pose at no additional charge from 4-8:00 p.m. You can also catch his No. 1 helper, Mrs. Claus, strolling around the Village.

The Elf Shop – Stop by this special space to create holiday crafts and join in on activities for Santa's youngest helpers.

Bonfires & Hot Drink Stations – Warm up around our fire pits while you roast marshmallows and enjoy delicious, complimentary hot chocolate and spiced cider.

Special Holiday Music – Enjoy special performances from regional musicians in the 1820 Meeting House.

Candlelight Tours - Explore the charm of Shaker Village by candlelight while learning about the holiday traditions of the Shakers.

Jingle Bell Shuttle - Tour the historic Village on a "decked out" hay wagon as you learn about Kentucky's largest National Historic Landmark.

Tree Lighting - Gather with your family and friends around the outdoor Christmas Tree at Shaker Village for caroling and the lighting of the tree.

Donations – Donations of new gloves, hats, scarves and non-perishable food for the Shaker Village Giving Tree will be collected and given to local families in need.

The Shops Extended Hours – The Shops have been filled to the brim with new merchandise brought in to celebrate the holiday season. Enjoy 10% off your purchases during the event from
4-8:00 p.m.

Join Shaker Village and the Long Run Woodford Hounds fox hunters for this grand, traditional event featuring a blessing of the hounds, riders, and horses, followed by the first meet of the formal hunting season.

Arrive at 9:00 a.m. and warm up with winter breakfast foods and beverages alongside roaring outdoor fire pits. Riders and hounds will make their ceremonial approach with music and the blessing at 10:00 a.m.

This event is included with your general admission to Shaker Village, granting you access to historic tours, exhibits and other experiences across the property.

Join Shaker Village as we get ready for the holidays! Learn to assemble fresh cut greenery into festive swags that will decorate the Historic Centre. Make a swag for the Village and another one to take home along with our thanks.

No skills or tools necessary.

Registration Closed

Available to help out from 9am-5pm on Saturday, November 16? Register for Shaker Village’s Volunteer Work Day and lend your aid to a variety of projects. Work Day volunteers also receive a complimentary continental breakfast and boxed lunch.

Holiday Greenery Helpers volunteers receive complimentary admission to Shaker Village's daily programs on November 15-16.

If you plan to make a swag to take home, please bring a favorite ribbon to use (2”+ wide and wire edged) or consider making a small donation to help cover Shaker Village’s ribbon costs.
