It feels good to splash around in a creek on a hot summer day, but did you know that you might be stomping through someone's home? Lots of macroinvertebrates - from snails to crayfish - live in Shawnee Run Creek. We'll meet some of these small creatures and learn about their habitat while also having some watery creekside fun.

Grasses and grass-like plants make up a huge portion of the plant life visitors can find in the Preserve and elsewhere at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. In this workshop, we'll go for a short hike through the Preserve to collect some grasses and other similar plants to identify after returning to our starting point to learn the techniques and tools needed to identify these often cryptic organisms. Water bottles and closed-toe shoes are recommended.

It's not often that there are two full moons in a calendar month - the last Blue Moon was in 2024. Join us for an evening hike through Shaker Village's Preserve as we wait for moonrise and enjoy this rare lunar occasion. We just hope your next visit to Shaker Village won't be once in a blue moon!

This hike will take place outdoors, rain or shine. Participants will traverse gravel, grass, and dirt pathways on a 1.5-3.0 mile loop along Shaker Village's trails. Participants should be comfortable walking in low light/semi-dark conditions. Participants may wish to bring a flashlight/headlamp, insect repellant and water.

This hike is intended for ages 12+. Tickets required for all attendees. Dogs are not permitted.

Shaker Village is home to one of Kentucky's largest and most accessible collections of historic, dry stacked stone fences. You are invited to join the Drystone Conservancy for this two-day workshop to learn how to care for and repair these remarkable pieces of Kentucky culture.

Introductory Workshops through the Drystone Conservancy are designed for drystone enthusiasts with little to no previous experience who would like to gain a basic understanding of dry stone construction techniques. The pace will be comfortable and participants will learn the fundamental skills needed to build and repair a typical rock fence or retaining wall.

Program fee includes one complimentary admission to Shaker Village and one voucher redeemable for 20% off dining at The Trustees’ Table (excluding alcoholic beverages). Dining reservations recommended to assure availability: call 859.734.5411.
